My Favorite Things on the Internet This Week

The Weekly Click

Hello internet stranger,

Welcome to The Weekly Click, a weekly (shocking, I know) updated list of interesting bits on the internet that I thought I’d share.

Happy clicking!

Online happenings that made my week.

There’s Only One Way to Rock

Sammy Hagar is back on tour and doing old Van Halen songs. There are only a few guitarists who could step into Eddie Van Halen’s spot, and, luckily, one of those is Joe Satriani. This fan-filmed concert showcases the new show. I would change out “Judgement Day” and “The Seventh Seal” with “Rock Candy” and “My Kind of Girl.”

Vance Vance Revolution

James David Vance, a junior United States senator from Ohio elected in 2022 and author of a 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, who has previously said in reference to Donald Trump, "I'm a never Trump guy", "never liked him", "terrible candidate", "idiot if you voted for him", "might be America's Hitler", "might be a cynical a-hole", "cultural heroin", "noxious", and "reprehensible", has just been announced as Trump's running mate for 2024. Good luck. I’m sure Pence will have a good chuckle at your expense. Hang in there! Also, why you shouldn't vote for Trump, according to JD Vance.

Apple Should Buy HBO

M. G. Siegler, writing on his site Spyglass, has proposed the simplest idea and one that should absolutely happen: Apple Should Buy HBO. He goes on to explain the why and it really does make sense.

Top of the World

Chinese drone maker DJI shared a breathtaking video of its DJI Mavic 3 Pro flying over Mount Everest. The drone ascended 3,500 meters from the base camp to the summit of the highest mountain in the world.

Looking Back. Looking Forward.

Katie Woo is one of the best beat reporters covering the St. Louis Cardinals. She has a great story on the first half takeaways and another one on what fans should look for in the second half. Always insightful.

The articles you should read today.

Quotes, sayings, and other scribblings.

“To me, all creativity is magic. Ideas start out in the empty void of your head - and they end up as a material thing, like a book you can hold in your hand. That is the magical process. It's an alchemical thing. Yes, we do get the gold out of it but that's not the most important thing. It's the work itself.” ― Alan Moore

Seems like our best and brightest are shaping fictional worlds… while our worst and dullest are shaping the real one.

“In playing ball and in life, a person occasionally gets the opportunity to do something great. When that time comes, only two things matter: being prepared to seize the moment and having the courage to take your best swing.” – Hank Aaron

I’m pretty sure this is the century that decides if mankind’s future looks like in Star Trek, Wall-E or Mad Max.

“Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.” ― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta
