My Favorite Things on the Internet This Week

Hello internet stranger,

The Weekly Click is a weekly (shocking, I know) updated list of interesting bits on the internet that I thought I’d share.

Happy clicking!

  1. Colin Cowherd has no problem with Taylor Swift's presence in the NFL. “Judge people by the silly things that bother them…”

  2. What if you took every DJ break Howard Hesseman ever made,as Dr. Johnny Fever, and just ...followed his lead? Would it be possible toconstruct a three-hour radio show, with Fever as host? Yes. Yes, it is. So sit back and enjoy as Fever slogs his way through a triple shift on a Cincinnati snow day. What a cool idea for a roadtrip.

  3. Ryan Reynolds and Jimmy Kimmel bring us an ad for Lay's potato chips, emphasizing the variety of available flavors. It stars Stephen Tobolowsky as Ned Ryerson, the insurance agent character he played in Groundhog Day. That's right, Ryerson finds himself stuck in a time loop like the one in the movie. Keep watching and you'll soon feel empathy for his frustration as he figures out he's in hell. Is this a Super Bowl ad? If it is, Frito-Lay would have to buy eight slots to run it, and that's expensive. But it's Frito-Lay, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

  4. One of my favorite bands, Collective Soul, has put out a live album at the end of January called Live at the Print Shop. Apparently, The Print Shop is a live music YouTube channel. So not only do I get the music, I can watch the band go through the set list. The performance happened three years ago, and I had no idea.

  5. Explore the Surface of Mars in Spectacular 4K Resolution. The footage, captured directly by NASA’s Mars rovers — Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance — unveils the red planet’s intricate details.

  6. Caffeine’s Dirty Little Secret

  7. The 150 Greatest Science Fiction Movies of All Time according to Rolling Stone magazine. I have literally never heard of their pick at number two, which, to be honest, is flabbergasting to me. I mean, the obvious answer is Star Wars and they have it ranked #9. Number one is the perfectly normal choice that everyone would generally agree upon, but some of the others… oof.

  8. The Evening Standard has a pretty good list, in no apparent order, of the 30 best fantasy novels. Definitely missing a few. Feels a bit too much like affiliate kickback purchase bait to me, though.

  9. The incredibly talented Puddles Pity Party performed a powerful cover of the Pink Floyd song “Brain Damage/Eclipse.”

  10. SNL takes on the Stanley cup craze. Really good satire.

  11. Donald Trump, already found liable for $5m for sexually assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll in a department store in the 1990s, must now pay $83.3m for subsequently defaming her in response to that verdict. Jurors took only 3 hours to return with the bill after a weeks-long trial. Just wait… the really big number is coming soon from a different trial.

  12. Billy Joel has a new song, “Turn the Lights Back On.” It’s his first original song in 17 years.

  13. Presented in three parts -- Sincerely Yours: The Making Of "The Breakfast Club" Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, a lightly-edited examination of the iconic film.

  14. We are not ready for the onslaught of disinformation around the 2024 election that’s about to hit us, writes Brandy Zarozny for NBC News. Sigh.

  15. Why Everyone Should Still Use an RSS Reader in 2024. This is a question?

  16. James Gunn finds his Supergirl in House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock. I stopped watching House of the Dragon after the time jump and she was no longer on the show. I like this casting, but there are so many characters in Gunn’s Superman film. Feels overcrowded on the surface.

  17. How a writer fabricated a series of stories for Atlas Obscura.

  18. John DeVore says he’s not trying to start something, but I’m not sure about this take: ‘Solo’ Is The Third Best ‘Star Wars’ Movie.

  19. Donald Trump will not win a war against the Swifties. Just to be clear, he is probably stupid enough to attack her directly. I’m actually looking forward to it. Taylor Swift fans will eviscerate him until the end of time.

  20. SOMEWHAT RELATED: In the last quarter of 2023, Trump raised $19 million to Biden's $33 million.

  21. How To Properly Use Your Electric Toothbrush, According To A Dentist

  22. Mark Manson walks you through the five levels of non-fuck-giving, each level demonstrating more non-fuckery than the last. You will learn step by step how to face your fears, how to stop worrying what other people think, and how to achieve the eternal bliss of a fuckless life. It’s the dream.

  23. Apple TV+ Is the New HBO

  24. Elle Cordova is a professional musician turned comedian with a flair for intellectual humor. In a recent series of videos, she personifies different fonts. Hilarious.

  25. Actor Dev Patel, who you know from Slumdog Millionaire and The Green Knight, is both director and star of Monkey Man. The film has been described as "John Wicke in Mumbai." Watch the trailer and see for yourself.

  26. Wrestling boss Vince McMahon retired after it emerged he had paid off staff at the organization, returned to it, and is now resigning again after being named in a sex trafficking lawsuit. That sounds about par for the course.

  27. What happens when an A.I. goes to therapy? “Sad Robot.

  28. Michael Loop: One Hundred Mondays

  29. John Gruber on the Vision Pro

  30. RELATED: Apple shared a new "First-Timer" ad that emphasizes how easy it is to use the Vision Pro. The ad emphasizes the only thing I would ever use it for… an IMAX theater experience on my couch.

  31. Why Universal Music Group Is At War With TikTok. This is a big deal.

  32. Carl Weathers has passed away. This one makes me sad. Here he was on stage 10 months ago at Star Wars Celebration. From MGM on Youtube, the best of Apollo Creed. Carl Weathers on the Rich Eisen Show about his football career.

  33. It’s the Job of Young People to Ignore Old People

Thanks for reading. If you like this potpourri of internet mélange and want to support it, forward it to someone who might like it, buy my books, or at the very least, let me know what you think. It is my hope you are enjoying my six-word stories or haiku here at the end.
