And Their Sacrifice Edition

My Favorite Things on the Internet This Week

The Weekly Click

Hello internet stranger,

Welcome to The Weekly Click, a weekly (shocking, I know) updated list of interesting bits on the internet that I thought I’d share.

Happy clicking!

Online happenings that made my week.

Illini Football | Memorial Stadium

It’s good to remember what the “memorial” in Memorial Stadium means. Let’s never forget.

The Life of a Swedish Writer

In this hilarious video, international bestselling author Fredrik Backman takes the stage at the Simon & Schuster centennial celebration, humorously admitting that he's only there because his agent insisted it would be good for his career. It just keeps going from there. I laughed several times.

Daikaiju

I did not expect to enjoy Daikaiju's instrumental surf-rock, but their songs are fun and inventive. I love that the members hide their identities behind Japanese Kubuki masks and are only known by pseudonyms like Secret-Man and Ultra-Girl. The band has three albums of material. Check them out.

Threads and Lists

One of the only reasons I still check Twitter is because of the curated set of Lists I have to follow my various interests. I subscribe to lists focused on favorite sports teams, one for local news, one for entertainment news, and a couple of others. The old Tweetedeck (RIP) was amazing at handling lists. The best alternative to Twitter, Threads, just created a user experience similar to Tweetdeck, but it’s missing the one thing I want… Lists. Let me add accounts to a list with a chronological timeline.

FORTY-FIVE! - A Randy Rainbow Song Parody

Randy Rainbow's tour is on a break, so he's back home making new videos. The political satirist channels Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” in a perfect takedown of Trump.

The articles you should read today.

Quotes, sayings, and other scribblings.

“The Americans who rest beneath these beautiful hills, and in sacred ground across our country and around the world, they are why our nation endures. Each simple stone marker, arranged in perfect military precision, signifies the cost of our blessings. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but it is a debt we will never stop trying to fully repay. By remaining a nation worthy of their sacrifice.” — Barack Obama

Gin and djinn are pronounced the same way. Both are spirits in a bottle.

"Think not of the books you've bought as a ‘to be read’ pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood." — Luc van Donkersgoed

There are 52 weeks in one year, which is perfectly divisible by 4, so we could have easily had exactly four weeks per month and just 13 months. This fact infuriates me.

The Weekly Click has been beamed to you via Beehiiv. Thanks for reading. If you like this potpourri of internet mélange and want to support it, forward it to someone who might like it, or at the very least, let me know what you think by replying to this email.

As we approach Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by countless men and women who have served our great nation. Their sacrifice has given us the blessings we enjoy. As you celebrate the holiday weekend, I hope you are able to spend time with family and friends. May you all have a relaxing weekend and build memories of your own. I know I have a busy one as we celebrate a graduation and kick-off summer.

Be seeing you.
