My Favorite Things on the Internet This Week

Hello internet stranger,

The Weekly Click is a weekly (shocking, I know) updated list of interesting bits on the internet that I thought I’d share.

Happy clicking!

  1. Dave Filoni has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm, the executive revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair. Now go make good Star Wars.

  2. Sara Tasker’s Manifesto for posting online in 2023 is excellent. I expect this point will get the most traction: “Block without warning. Mute liberally. Don’t offer up explanations.” The comments are good too.

  3. Sam Altman, the OpenAI CEO spectacularly fired last week, is back at his post after days of negotiations. The board that tried to force him out is mostly gone giving him a free hand to rapidly develop and commercialize AI technology. It was crazy. The money won, full steam ahead. Want more? 4. RELATED: The most insane things ChatGPT has ever done. And the creepiest.

  5. Cardinals make key first steps in addressing rotation by signing Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn. This is such a typical Cardinals move. Sign cheap project pitcher fans remember and hope for lightning in a bottle. Michael Wacha… come on down. Is Joe Kelly available too? Another bad year and 3 million people will still pay money to watch.

  6. RELATED: New Cardinals bench coach Daniel Descalso ready to ‘bring some wins’ back to St. Louis. Yeah, yeah… when is Yadi coming back?

  7. RELATED II: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: The San Diego Padres hired Mike Shildt as their manager on a two-year contract. Good for him.

  8. Donald Trump continues to use social media to aggressively attack the judges, attorneys, and other officials involved in his many court cases — gag orders be damned. And nothing will stop him — well, actually, there is one thing that would silence Trump, a solution that former RNC Chair Michael Steele mentioned over the weekend, "Put his ass in jail!"

  9. The Artist Roger Kastel died at the age of 92. You may not know his name, but you definitely know some of his work, including the iconic Jaws poster.

  10. “If you’re reading this I have passed away … I loved each and every one of you with my whole heart and I promise you, I knew how deeply I was loved.” A woman who died from cancer recently erased approximately $14 million of other people's medical debt with a posthumous plea.

  11. The University of Illinois launches the world’s first public quantum network at Urbana Free Library. Cutting-edge stuff.

  12. What Happens When the Super Rich Are This Selfish? (It Isn’t Pretty.)

  13. Nicholas Hoult is in talks to play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy It may already be a done deal. I like the casting.

  14. The BBC has a great piece on the (im)possibility of time travel on the eve of the new season of Doctor Who. RELATED: Doctor Who: The 60 Best Episodes

  15. You should read this wonderful obituary of New Orleans resident Virginia Jane Smith, who died this month at age 98 and survived Hurricane Katrina by living for a week off boiled eggs, water, and whiskey. As the headline says, may her memory be a blessing.

  16. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter Passes Away at Age 96. President Carter: “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it.”

  17. Just when you thought The Karate Kid universe couldn’t get any bigger, it just did. The star of the original franchise as well as Cobra Kai, Ralph Macchio, is teaming up with action movie legend, and star of the 2010 Karate Kid remake, Jackie Chan, for a brand new Karate Kid movie. The new “Karate Kid” movie will be both a sequel to the original 80s-era theatrical series and the blockbuster 2010 remake.

  18. A kiss is decidedly not on their list. Daryl Hall Gets Restraining Order Against John Oates in Hall & Oates Legal Battle.

  19. At the last minute, Michigan and Jim Harbaugh halted efforts to fight the coach’s latest 3-game suspension. So you know that whatever is about to come out is pretty bad. Sources: NCAA’s evidence vs. Michigan included booster involvement in scouting scheme, attempted destruction of evidence. RELATED?: Michigan football fired linebackers coach Chris Partridge.

  20. Threads is surging again. President Joe Biden signed up for a Threads account, as did the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the second gentleman, Douglas Emhoff.

  21. How Many Advertisers Can X (Twitter) Lose in One Day Thanks to Elon? As a site for promotional purposes, why would anyone go there? The extremely public owner is a toxic bigot who posts insanity constantly, you can't be guaranteed your ad won't show up next to hateful content, and there is a large segment of potential customers who will avoid your product if you advertise there. It’s easier to move ad dollars someplace else.

  22. For her new album Rockstar, Dolly Parton covers a number of rock songs, including Heart of Glass (feat. Debbie Harry), Stairway to Heaven (feat. Lizzo on the flute), I Hate Myself For Loving You (feat. Joan Jett and The Blackhearts), and Every Breath You Take (feat. Sting). I tried to listen to it and it’s really not very good. Sorry. Your mileage may vary, so here’s the entire Rockstar video playlist.

  23. Apple shared its annual holiday-themed ad, which is titled "Fuzzy Feelings."

  24. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the final chapter in the DCEU that we’ve known it for the past decade, is a mere month away. And now, we have our final (or close to final) trailer.

  25. The 56 best/worst analogies written by high school students

Thanks for reading. If you like this potpourri of internet mélange and want to support it, forward it to someone who might like it, buy my books, or at the very least, let me know what you think. It is my hope you are enjoying my six-word stories or haiku here at the end.

Be seeing you.
